Today was the darkest thickest with rain morning since I started. It seemed like the dawn had to make a great effort to appear. But once the light began to come up the thick rain changed to an even light downpour. I cannot believe the differences of each day. The drawings seem like ghosts of the real experience. I wonder if there is a way for me to get closer?

1/10/00

Rain, sky flat gray, fog in upper reaches of the hills. The rain is vertical, steady like a waterfall, but no toutist traps here. Much too lonely. Lonely is a good word. The bottle is that, and me, too. The bottle is a sentinel keeping watch alone day and night.

1/11/00

I know I am out there at the right time. There are a few minutes of hungover night, a gentle breeze, and then the light comes up behind me, but the magic of that moment is not in the drawings. I can see it ,and I can feel it, but I can't get it all on the paper. This was approximately a 5 minute experience, maybe less, and all under a heavy gray steady downpour.

bottle felt frigid or is it me?
Snowed this am.

1/12/00 Snow Melting On Bottle

1/16/00

About 9 am I was on my way up to the studio when a very forceful gust of wind came up and, I saw the fir trees violently bend over in the wind. I turned when I heard a crashing sound, and I saw my shelter tumbling to the ground. The front edge of the overhang cracked off, and there was a hole in the roof.We patched the roof while it was on the ground, righted the structure, moved it back into place, and secured it to the ground with stakes and bolts.
