Why distance ed.? Is it right for me? Both are good questions to give focus as to why you might take a course via the internet. Your success depends on some degree on your computer experience and more specifically on your ability to do mathematics. Past performance and current study skills in mathematics are important to your future success. In addition to the initial LCC entry assessment (Compass or Asset) results, we will administer a brief follow-up assessment tool as a refinement of the placement process. Your ability to manage your daily schedule and set aside time for getting on-line, completing assigned homework and for testing will be critical to passing the course. Course activities typically require a minimum of 10-12 hours participation per week. A 5 hour on-line minimum is required and will be monitored. We will use Academic System's material and are computer-based. The material is usable over the Internet, so you can do your work from any computer that has access to the Web. To see briefly how this software works, you can download a demo: Academic Systems Demo
Your textbook package includes a Personal Academic Notebook (PAN), a client installer CD, and CDs that contain the instructional material for your class. Before you can begin work on a computer, you must install the Academic Systems client using the CD in your package. For technical assistance in installing the client, please contact Academic Systems through their web page.
You should know that once your unwrap the textbook, you will not be able to return it to the bookstore. Be sure you will stay in this class before you do so.
