Lassen Volcanic National Park, California

The Trail to the Summit of Cinder Cone

Trail to summit of Cinder Cone, July 31, 2004, Lassen Volcanic National Park

The trail is somewhat steep, about 35 percent.
The tephra, cinders and ash, are generally unconsolidated,
so climbing a cinder cone is somewhat like walking along a beach.
