Lava Mold of Log

Lava Cast Forest, Newberry National Volcanic Monument

Lava flow partially covered this log

A lava flow from Newberry Volcano overran a forest about 6,000 years ago
creating molds of logs and trees.

Take this link to a web page of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO)
and see a similar happening that recently occurred on the slopes of Kilauea Volcano.

Tree molds can be seen along the Trail of Two Forests
on the south slopes of Mount St. Helens,
as well as at Newberry National Volcanic Monument
and Craters of the Moon.
