Newberry (Caldera) National Volcanic Monument, central Oregon

Newberry Caldera, Central Pumice Cone, Big Obsidian Flow, Paulina and East Lakes

This view of Newberry Caldera includes, from left to right,:

The two Lakes lie in a caldera.

This caldera resulted from the collapse of the summit of
the Newberry Volcano, a large shield volcano.
The caldera is complex and is at least 10,000 years old, possibly as old as 400,000 years.
