Newberry (Caldera) National Volcanic Monument, central Oregon
This view of Newberry Caldera includes, from left to right,:
Paulina Lake, Central Pumice Cone behind Little Crater,
Big Obsidian Flow, and East Lake
Picture taken from Paulina Peak.
The two Lakes lie in a caldera.
This caldera resulted from the collapse of the summit of
the Newberry Volcano, a large shield volcano.
The caldera is complex and is at least 10,000 years old, possibly as old as 400,000 years.
