Crater Lake (National Park), Oregon

Crater Lake, Wizard Island, Devil's Backbone, and Llao Rock

Wizard Island is a cinder cone.
Llao Rock in the background is a dacite dome.

To the left of the Wizard Island lava flow is the Devil's Backbone,
a volcanic dike on the caldera wall.

Crater Lake lies in a caldera.

This caldera resulted from the collapse of the summit of Mount Mazama,
a great stratovolcano, during a major eruption about 7,000 years ago.
