Vista House viewpoint is in the middle distance on the Oregon side (right) of the Columbia River, which is flowing west (to the left).
Beacon Rock, in the distance on the Washington side (left) of the river,
is an igneous intrusion, possibly a dike, more resistant to erosion than the surrounding rocks.
