Bedded Chert, Marin Headlands, CA
These sedimentary rocks formed near the equator as siliceous oozes as the tests of radiolarians accumulated on the seafloor. They were carried to their present position by movements of Earth's lithospheric plates. As plates collided these rocks were deformed (folded) and accreted to North America.
