GEOL118![]() HISTORICAL GEOLOGY LOWER COLUMBIA COLLEGE |
GEOL 118 HISTORICAL GEOLOGY examines the physical, chemical and biological evolution of Earth based on geologic analysis of the evidence preserved in rocks and fossils. Major topics include plate tectonics, evolution, fossils, biogeography, sedimentary environments, dating, geologic time, ice ages and climate change. Laboratory work includes identification of rocks and fossils, determination of relative ages, and interpretation of past environments. A field trip may be required. Formerly listed as GEOL 113.
If you do any reading over Spring Break, start by reading Chapter 23 - Cenozoic Earth and Life History.
Other chapters you could read over the break, if you are so inclined, are:
- Chapter 2 - Plate Tectonics
- Chapter 17 - Geologic Time
If you don't have a textbook yet, use the following sites to learn about plate tectonics.
